It's Time To...

Let it go!

I'm having a letting go moment. If there is something that was created by you or someone else that is holding you back, disturbing your peace or wrecking havoc on your health - let it go!

Much love, peace and blessings!

So Sweet...Papyrus

I bought a greeting card for a close family friend today. It came with a message, from Papyrus, that I want to share. Hummingbirds are one of my favorite birds, so this touched my heart.

"Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The hummingbird's delegate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation."

Thank you, Papyrus, for this sweet reminder.

#tbt Be Thankful for Life

Hey, it's throwback Thursday. I just threw a few pictures together into a collage to share with my friends on Facebook, and thought I would share with my friends of Let's Share Dialogue, and I encourage you to do the same: Share! When this day comes weekly, I don't always post a picture to share, or even a collage. However, I do reflect on fun times I've had with friends, and I comment on the posts that I do see that serve as a reminder of what we all have to be thankful for: Life!

Sparkles

I am loving my shamballa bracelet. I love the colors, and sparkles. Just thought I'd share. Google and see where you can find one for yourself, how to make them or what color combinations may best suit your desires.

Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association

Some of our thyroid health friends have lost their thyroids due to cancer, so let's take a moment to share dialogue about Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. The Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc., www.thyca.org, has free materials available to you year-round, so I thought I would note a few.

Free education, support, and awareness flyers can be accessed at www.thyca.org. There are several resources that you can use for educational purposes, and to raise awareness. You can also e-mail thyca@thyca.org with your address and asking them to mail you brochures, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Neck Check cards, and plastic wallet cards.

Thank you, ThyCa!

Thank You, Brave Girls Club

This is my most popular pin this week, and it comes from the dolls at Brave Girls Club. They are bringing women together to empower one another to set their sights on doing whatever it is they want to do in their lives- big things, and embarking upon a global scale in living their mission. Thank you for your positive messages and for sharing dialogue. I love this pin, for many reasons, but most certainly for the foremost reason that we all have a heart! You can process the meaning from within and then share dialogue as you feel with others. Cheers!

Weekend in Bloom

TGIF! Have a great weekend, dolls, and take some time to reflect, see your loved ones and observe nature. Flowers always brighten my day. They drawn beautiful creatures, such as hummingbirds, that I find completely captivating. Their flutter amazes me. They are so zippy. Creation is a beautiful thing. My affinity for flowers is shared by many, so I'm sharing a few pictures below of sunflowers I captured in Wisconsin the end of August, and some lovely arrangements shared by friends on Instagram just yesterday.

May your weekends be fresh, fun and freeing. Cheers! Shemeka

Color Me Blue

I'm loving shades of blue, glitter and stripes. I found a few of my favorite things on Pinterest. Thought I'd share them with you.

Dear Thyroid

I have days when I get hit with panic, anxiety, and fatigue (waking up at 5AM only to fall asleep again for a "nap" by 830/9AM), resting as the time goes by. It's days like this where I now know that it's my disease - hypothyroidism - that's causing me a minor setback in my day to day living. There were days when I would forget that I'm sick because I'd look great, but felt crummy.

I've come to a point of acceptance and acknowledgment, and it's been a journey, one that I'm blogging about and sharing with others, particularly several advocates within the thyroid community. The community I refer to consists of people who I have reached out to, such as thyroid health bloggers, advocates and those who have connected with me as well to share their stories, dialogue and allow me to thyrant (thanks friends at Dear Thyroid).

The friends at Dear Thyroid provide an amazing outlet for thyrants, support and people resources, they are known mostly for their Dear Thyroid Letters.  I've had my public thyrants, but my letter is one I'm working on, cause I struggle with my hypothyroidism. Do you? Have you written your letter? If not, what are you waiting on? Make new friends at the Dear Thyroid Organization. Write on!

Seeing Signs

ABC News published an article by Anne Krueger, Health.com, 19 Signs Your Thyroid Isn't Working Right, August 30th. It serves as a reminder to me and many thyroid health advocates and sufferers that you can't and should not ignore the signs of poor thyroid health.

Check it out. You haven't lost your mind, there is clarity at the end of the tunnel. Just listen to your body and see the signs.

Well wishes,
Shemeka

Bahamas Mama ~ Atlantis

One of my favorite places is Nassau, Bahamas. I was there earlier this year in February, and like always, I truly enjoyed myself. My travel mates and I took a ferry to Paradise Island, for shopping and drinks at Atlantis. Atlantis has plenty to see and will keep you entertained. These glass sculptures are truly captivating and remind me of the scuptures at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, also by glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. He is amazing!

Pink Cast Coming Thru

My lovely pink cast that I am growing attached to... I rolled down a hill at Alpine Valley during the last song of Jimmy Buffett's concert last month. Great Show Jimmy!

Hello There, Lovelies

How is your thyroid health today? Are you loving your thyroid self? I am, however, there is always time for improvement. I broke my leg a few weeks ago, so I have had extra time to read magazines, books and some of my favorite thyroid blogs. Let me save you some time. I will share what I am reading, pictures from my travels and much more as I am a fan of sharing dialogue. ;)

Check out ThyroidChange and read the featured blog, as it features a hero. Enjoy!

Love to you, your thyroid or the lack thereof.

To New York, With Love

Thank you for the memories! I absolutely adore NYC. I spent a couple days there in April with my parents, who took off in March before me to celebrate their anniversary. I am so thankful for the experience, history, art and food. I can't wait to return. To New York with love...<3 Shemeka Rontè

We Need Change ~ PSA

Today I share a moving PSA that my friends at ThyroidChange have shared with me. It is on ThyroidChangeTV on YouTube. It's powerful, portrays powerful recognition of the struggles many thyroid patients go through, and it's truth. Please view it. It is the very reason why I blog and depicts my strongest message to thyroid patients - be your own advocate, know your body and fight for yourself and your rights, because the struggle, while shared, is yours and our voices need to be heard.

Good day, my friends, be well,
Shemeka

Just Call Me Slim

I’ve heard the odds are slim, chances are slim, slim pickings, and yo slim so many times. However, don’t ever minimize the health odds or chances when slim comes into play. A month ago I found out my uterine fibroid tumors have returned. While they are benign, they will not be tested until I have them removed. The procedure I decide to have this second time around is yet to be determined. I will visit with a new doctor who will be joining my dream team, tomorrow. All I know is that I don’t want to be in this same spot, another six years down the road.

Six years ago I had a procedure called a myomectomy. A myomectomy is a surgical procedure that consists of the removal of uterine fibroid tumors, which are noncancerous growths that in my case were large and plentiful. My uterus had grown to be the size of a five month pregnant woman. It was ridiculous! I had 12 tumors removed, and now I find my uterus growing yet again, with several tumors. It’s just a headache. I mean, nobody has time for foreign bodies invading their private places. Seriously, I gotta figure out next steps and keep things movin’. The myomectomy is an amazing procedure since it leaves your uterus intact, so that you can still bear children. It’s got its complications, but if you are in good hands, you’ll be good to go. However, the chances or odds of reoccurring tumors could be slim or definitive. For me – it’s the return of “fake baby bump” or “sexy kangaroo pouch.”

I’ll elaborate more on the risks, experiences, etcetera in due time. In the meantime, I’m contemplating the best next steps for me, because I want the odds of these tumors returning to be SLIM to none!
